Costs for wholesale power are based upon two components. Much like your home bill, SLVREC pays for the total amount of power consumed. However, the cooperative is also billed according to the timing of the peak power use for any given month.
This charge reflects additional charges our power provider, Tri State Generation & Transmission Association must pay for spot market power purchases or for the additional costs associated with ramping up their own power generation plants to meet peak power need.
SLVREC can save on wholesale power costs if members avoid using power during periods of peak load. Additionally, members who are on time-of-use rate classes will see lower power bills when they shift use from peak to off-peak times. The following table provides information on peak power times. |
