High Voltage Demonstrations

Every year, SLVREC offers a high voltage demonstration to fourth grade students throughout the Valley. Our qualified employees use a 7,200 volt display board to explain the potential dangers associated with high voltage power lines. They use real-life examples from the San Luis Valley to illustrate each point.

The talk is entertaining as well as educational. It is suitable for groups of all ages. To learn more about the program, or to schedule a high voltage demonstration for your group, call Linda Roybal at (719) 852-3538.

SLVREC also offers outside demonstrations using actual overhead line and power poles. These demonstrations are excellent for emergency rescue personnel. SLVREC will schedule a demonstration anytime there is enough interest. To learn more about the program, call Anthony Lobato or Terryl Jensen at (719) 852-3538.

Rural Electric Energy Seminar

In addition to college scholarships, SLVREC sponsors other opportunities for San Luis Valley students. The deadline for one opportunity, Rural Electric Energy Seminar in Steamboat Springs, is May 15. This program teaches high school juniors how cooperatives work and promotes understanding about the electric utility industry. Students from a four-state region attend the camp. It's a great way to meet other students and to learn new things. For an application, or to learn more about the camp, call 719-852-3538 or 800-332-7634.
