Understanding Your Bill

General information about your account appears on each billing statement you receive from SLVREC. The center portion of the bill contains:
- your account number
- the service location
- a map location code
- the dates of service for the billing period
- the meter number
- the previous and current meter readings
- the kWh used
- the rate schedule
- account activity including recent payments and charges
- the amount currently due on the account

Unless your bill states “Do Not Pay,” you are required to send in a payment every month. Include the detachable bottom stub with your payment so your account is properly credited.

Check the “Activity Since Last Bill” box to be sure your prior payments have posted properly. If a balance prior to this billing is listed, call SLVREC right away! If you do not pay your balance in full and you do not contact the cooperative, you risk disconnection. Disconnection fees can add up.

The box to the right of that, “Current Bill Information” shows the energy charge, wires and maintenance charge, and any other charges for the current billing cycle. Other adjustments will also appear here. For example, late fees, penalties, credits or other adjustments will show up here.

Special notices will show up in this area also. For example, if your account is automatically paid by a credit card or bank draft, it will include a “Do not pay” message.

In the top right corner of your bill, a kWh usage history graph shows your pattern of electric use over the past twelve months. The height of the vertical axis is determined by the month with the most power consumption. This can make the graph a bit misleading if you had a month with significantly more use than most of the others. The average cost per day and the average kWh per day show how much energy you used on the average in the current billing cycle

If you have additional questions about your bill or your account, it will be useful to have a copy of the bill in front of you when you call or stop by the cooperative's office. Customer service representatives are available to help with billing questions from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Payment Due Dates

Payments are due two weeks after receipt of the bill. If you live in Mineral, Hinsdale, Saguache or Alamosa County, your bill is due on the 1st day of every month. If you live in Rio Grande, Conejos, or Costilla County, your bill is due on the 15th of every month.

If for any reason, you can not pay your bill by the due date,
contact SLVREC immediately.

In many cases the cooperative may be able to help you make payment arrangements if your bill has not gone past the due date. Once your bill is past due, the options available to you and to the cooperative are much more limited.

To pay by mail:
Please return your payment by mail in the envelope provided inside your bill each month. Please do not send cash.

Other ways to make payment:
You can phone in a payment to take care of your bill with a credit card, debit card, or check-by-phone payment. Call to speak with a customer service representative during normal business hours: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

We can automatically draft from your savings/checking account or we can bill a credit card of your choice on a monthly basis.  A statement is still generated for your convenience and record keeping purposes.
